Cannabis Lounge in Montgomery County: The First Marijuana Smoking Lounge in Maryland

Cannabis lounges are becoming increasingly popular across the United States as states legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes. The Ceylon House in Burtonsville, Montgomery County, Maryland, is the newest cannabis lounge to open its doors. The lounge is marketed as the first marijuana smoking lounge in Maryland and is a first-of-its-kind space where registered medical marijuana patients can legally smoke.

What is The Ceylon House?

The Ceylon House is a unique establishment that has been in development since 2018. Its co-owners, Venus Hemachandra and Shreemal Perera, were determined to create a space where marijuana patients can comfortably consume cannabis and interact with other members of the cannabis community. The permitting process was long, extensive, and expensive, but the lounge finally opened its doors with a grand opening weekend in Burtonsville.

Rules and Regulations

The Ceylon House has strict rules and regulations that all customers must follow. Before entry, customers must sign a waiver stating that they are 21 years or older, are Maryland residents, and are registered medical marijuana patients. Additionally, they must stop consuming marijuana 30 minutes to an hour before they leave.

Expenses Involved

The permitting process was not the only expense involved in the opening of the Ceylon House. The co-owners spent a considerable amount on a pricey HVAC system and exorbitant insurance premiums. However, they plan to use the space to host events, talks, and activities centered around marijuana culture, creating a safe and comfortable environment for patients to consume cannabis.
