Two former football stars turned cannabis entrepreneurs have launched a new collaboration in the name of pain relief, ready to hit stores this weekend.
The “Ricky Baker” collaborative strain was launched on October 3 by Chris Ball, former legacy operator and CEO of Ball Family Farms, and former NFL running back and Lifelong cannabis advocate Ricky Williams lifestyle brand, Highsman.
The strain is designed to aid people suffering from pain and inflammation and has been pheno-hunted exclusively to incorporate the terpenes limonene and linalool.
The strain is scheduled to hit the shelves of California retail stores on Saturday, October 8, 2022. In a statement, Ricky Williams praised the collaboration and expressed his pride in working with Ball Family Farms, a Los Angeles social equity licensed brand and cultivation.
Williams said that “Chris [Ball] is a pioneer in the cannabis space, overcoming obstacles and transitioning to a truly grassroots legal operation. We are proud to collaborate on a product that gives back to those persecuted for cannabis related offenses, and leads the next generation of Black cannabis entrepreneurs.”
The strain takes its name from famed movie character Baker of Spike Lee’s “Boyz N the Hood.”
It is bred to produce a profound high with cerebral characteristics, ideal for what Williams’s Highsman company describes as a “pregame vibe.” “Ricky Baker” was crafted to bring in a great mix of terpenes with a scent of thick musk and gas alongside a sweet flavor.
“I’m excited about this collaboration with Highsman and Ricky Williams,” says Chris Ball. “Our goal is not only to bring light and understanding to who Ricky Williams really is and what cannabis means to him. But more importantly, to erase buying stigma that is plaguing our industry. We want to teach consumers how they should be shopping for their cannabis.”
The strain is also grown with attention to the environment, with indoor cultivation that saves a significant amount of water alongside closed-loop cultivation, 100% organic techniques and the use of recycled natural soil. By using a living-soil method, the collaboration reduces waste to negligible amounts while making full use of all available water, even HVAC condensation.
