Burna Boy Launches BrkFst Cannabis Brand In Miami and Headlines Tipsy Music Festival

Burna Boy, the Nigerian Afrobeats sensation and Grammy Award winner, recently launched his cannabis brand BrkFst in South Beach, Miami. The launch took place on Friday, October 7th, coinciding with Miami Carnival. The all-day celebration was a hit among Burna Boy fans and the cannabis community, featuring a pop-up, brunch, and headlining at the Tipsy Musical Festival. In this article, we will take a closer look at BrkFst, Burna Boy’s inspiration for the brand, and his views on cannabis in Nigeria.

BrkFst: A Cannabis Brand Inspired by Burna Boy’s Lyrics

BrkFst is a clever name for a cannabis brand, inspired by the fact that many smokers start their day with morning marijuana consumption, making it their first meal of the day. The brand’s slogan, #Brkfstisforsmokers, resonates with smokers who relate to the idea of starting their day with a joint. The name BrkFst may have also been inspired by the lyrics of Burna Boy’s hit song “Last Last,” where he sings, “Na everybody go chop breakfast,” which is a slang in Nigeria that means everyone will definitely experience pain or heartbreak.

Burna Boy’s Inspiration for BrkFst

The inception of BrkFst may have been influenced by the lyrics of Burna Boy’s songs, but it was also a reflection of his personal experience. In the video for “Last Last,” Burna Boy copes with the end of a relationship and heals his emotional wounds with weed (Igbo) and alcohol (shayo). He found solace in cannabis and wanted to share that with his fans through BrkFst.

Burna Boy’s Views on Cannabis in Nigeria

In a 2021 interview with Home Grown radio, Burna Boy spoke about the misconceptions surrounding cannabis in Nigeria. He noted that “everybody smokes weed” in the country, but nobody wants to be seen consuming it. He attributed this to the ban on cannabis in Nigeria and the stigma attached to its consumption. Burna Boy believes that the ban is hypocritical and that officials enforcing it are usually discriminatory in their approach. He argues that everyone in Nigeria smokes weed, but nobody wants to be seen consuming it because of the misconceptions and stigma attached to it. He highlights that the ban is due to people shying away from discussing it, and it’s not a zero-tolerance policy.

He also mentions that old advertisements on weed used to make it seem like if you smoke it, you’ll go mad. This is one of the reasons why it’s challenging to change people’s perceptions of cannabis, and it’s something that Burna Boy hopes to change through his brand BrkFst.

BrkFst’s launch event in South Beach, Miami, was a massive success. The all-day celebration had a pop-up, brunch, and an all-white themed musical festival at Bayfront Park, with Burna Boy headlining the event. The brand’s merchandise was available for purchase, and the Afrofusion superstar serenaded his fans.

This pre launch event was a strategic move as it coincided with Miami Carnival, which is a massive celebration that attracts thousands of people. The event was well-planned, and Burna Boy’s team represented him well. It was also an excellent opportunity for him to network with other cannabis enthusiasts.

BrkFst is not only a business venture for Burna Boy but also a reflection of his personality and lifestyle. In his hit song “Last Last,” he sings about how everyone will experience pain or heartbreak, which he likens to the Nigerian slang “everybody will chop breakfast.” This has now become the inspiration for his brand’s name, BrkFst.

The slogan for the brand, #Brkfstisforsmokers, has a double entendre that resonates with smokers who start their day with a morning cannabis consumption, Breakfast being the first meal of the day.

The brand has a lot of potential to become a household name, especially with Burna Boy’s massive following on social media. He currently has over 7 million followers on Instagram, and his posts about the brand have garnered a lot of attention.

As the first African artist to head a Caribbean festival, Burna Boy has made a name for himself in the music industry. He has collaborated with artists like Stormzy, Chris Martin, Jorja Smith, and Youssou N’Dour. He has also won several awards, including the BET Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, and the Grammy Awards.

Burna Boy’s love for cannabis is no secret, and he has never shied away from talking about it. He has used his platform to advocate for the legalization of cannabis and to raise awareness about the benefits of the plant.
