Today’s the day, Jersey City! Cultural icon Ice-T and cannabis entrepreneur Charis Burrett have officially opened their groundbreaking dispensary, The Medicine Woman. Located at 660 Tonnelle Avenue, this new spot is poised to elevate Jersey City’s cannabis culture and community in a major way.
Bringing Cannabis Culture Back Home
For Ice-T, the dispensary isn’t just another business venture—it’s personal. Born and raised in Jersey City, he’s now returning home to give back to the very community that shaped him. “This is where I’m from,” says Ice-T. “I came up here, and now I’m coming back to build something that gives back. It’s bigger than cannabis—this is about creating opportunities and addressing the injustices that have impacted communities like ours.”
A New Standard in Cannabis Retail
The Medicine Woman isn’t your average dispensary. The impressive two-story building covers a sprawling 10,000 square feet. The space includes 3,000 square feet of sleek retail space packed with carefully curated cannabis products, alongside 3,000 square feet of executive offices. An additional 4,000 square feet are reserved for future expansions, including an anticipated cannabis consumption lounge and manufacturing facilities.
Conveniently located along Route 1 & 9, just minutes from Manhattan Avenue, the dispensary boasts a fully renovated parking lot equipped with EV charging stations. Designed with both accessibility and sustainability in mind, The Medicine Woman aims to offer a seamless experience for customers and employees alike.
Locally Grown Talent
The Medicine Woman is serious about empowering Jersey City residents. All 15 staff members at the dispensary have been recruited directly from the local community. With support from their established California-based team, Charis and her husband Luke Burrett have prioritized local hiring, career development, and workforce training. “We want to build something lasting that benefits the community directly,” Charis explains. “For us, success means providing not just employment but real, sustainable careers.”
Education and Industry Partnership
Beyond offering top-tier cannabis products, The Medicine Woman is partnering with Hudson County Community College (HCCC) to develop the next generation of cannabis professionals. Students will have access to internships, hands-on training, and direct job placements within the cannabis sector. Through this partnership, Charis and Ice-T are ensuring that community members benefit from the booming cannabis economy in New Jersey.
Cannabis Justice at the Core
True to its mission-driven values, The Medicine Woman has teamed up with the Last Prisoner Project, a national organization dedicated to freeing those incarcerated for nonviolent cannabis offenses. Through funding, advocacy, and awareness efforts, The Medicine Woman commits to creating meaningful change and promoting justice in the cannabis space.
Save the Date: A Weekend to Remember
Today marks the soft opening of The Medicine Woman dispensary, but the real party is coming April 19-20. Saturday, April 19, kicks off with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrity appearances, live entertainment, food vendors, and exclusive giveaways.
The weekend peaks with an epic “Blazing & Praising” event on Sunday, April 20 (420), combining cannabis culture, community connection, music, and spirituality into an unforgettable celebration. Ice-T promises, “This will be more than a party—it’s a celebration of cannabis, culture, and community spirit like Jersey City has never seen.”
With Ice-T and Charis Burrett at the helm, The Medicine Woman dispensary is already making waves on the East Coast cannabis scene. Jersey City residents now have front-row access to high-quality products, community empowerment, and opportunities that will shape the future of the cannabis industry for years to come.
