Lil Wayne Reveals 2 Chainz Was His Weed Man Before Collab

A Rap Bromance Rooted in Cannabis: Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’s Untold Story

Introduction

In the realm of rap and hip-hop, few friendships have been as enduring and multi-faceted as the one between Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. In a candid interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Lil Wayne pulled back the curtain on the duo’s long-standing relationship, revealing an unexpected twist—2 Chainz was his cannabis supplier before they even became musical collaborators.

The Initial Connection

Lil Wayne, also known as Weezy, first crossed paths with 2 Chainz (aka Tity Boi) at an Atlanta studio. Wayne was immediately struck by Chainz’s charisma and their similar attitudes. However, at the time, he was completely unaware of 2 Chainz’s lyrical talents. “Just same type of attitude, cool, but I didn’t know he rapped at the time,” Wayne noted.

The Cannabis Catalyst

For Weezy, Atlanta trips had a recurring theme—cannabis. Whenever he was in town, one name always came to mind: 2 Chainz. As Wayne divulged, “And so every time I would go to Atlanta and I wanted to speak about that one thing [marijuana], I would always call this guy [2 Chainz] to talk about that.”

A Friendship Forged in Verse and Herb

During one of these cannabis transactions around 2007, 2 Chainz seized the opportunity to showcase his rapping skills. He played his song “Duffle Bag Boy” for Lil Wayne, who was instantly captivated. “The moment he said he rapped and the moment I heard it, we got to the studio, and I did this hook for the song, ‘Duffle Bag Boy.’ And the rest is history,” Wayne gushed.

Musical Journeys and Upcoming Endeavors

Since that pivotal moment, their collaboration has led to various hits and an enduring friendship. The pair are even gearing up to release their new album, “Welcome 2 Collegrove,” set to drop on November 17th.

Interestingly, it shares the release date with Nicki Minaj’s first album in five years, “Pink Friday 2.”

Conclusion

While the world knows Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz for their musical prowess, it was cannabis that initially bound them. Now, as they prepare for new chapters in their musical careers, one thing remains clear: this rap bromance has layers, each as compelling as their intricate verses.
