Matt Barnes: A Champion for Cannabis Advocacy and Social Impact

Former NBA champion, entrepreneur, and nationally-recognized cannabis advocate Matt Barnes has recently been appointed as an advisor to the Board of Directors at Eaze, California’s largest marketplace for legal cannabis. Barnes’ appointment aims to support Eaze’s cannabis policy, social impact, and industry relations efforts, with a particular focus on its pioneering Momentum business accelerator.

Transitioning into the Cannabis Industry

Barnes is a well-known figure in the cannabis industry, having advocated for the plant’s normalization in professional sports and inspiring others to be open about their use of it. As an athlete, he was known for his fearless attitude, and he has since channeled that same energy into his entrepreneurial ventures.

Barnes’ transition into the cannabis industry has been both seamless and significant. His passion for advocacy and social impact led him to launch his own brand of cannabis products, “Seven Leaves,” which has quickly become a respected player in the industry. Barnes’ appointment to the Eaze Board of Directors is a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and his dedication to making a positive impact in the cannabis industry.

Supporting Equity and Social Impact Programs

Barnes’ vision for supporting Black and brown entrepreneurs nationally aligns with Eaze’s efforts to elevate minority-owned businesses through its groundbreaking equity programs. Eaze’s Momentum program, which launched in 2019, provides resources to underrepresented cannabis founders and assists equity license holders. Its Social Equity Menu, launched in 2020, has been successful in selling nearly $2 million in products made by social equity partners. The Social Equity Partners Program, launched in September, is a multi-point initiative aimed at further assisting equity license holders.

As an advocate for cannabis normalization and a champion for social impact, Barnes believes that new markets for cannabis legalization are only meaningful if they provide tangible gains for Black and brown entrepreneurs. By working with Eaze, Barnes hopes to make a real difference in supporting these entrepreneurs and uplifting communities that have been negatively affected by the War on Drugs.

A Bright Future for Cannabis Advocacy

Barnes’ appointment to the Eaze Board of Directors is a significant step in his advocacy for cannabis policy and social impact. He brings his expertise and experience to the table, providing valuable insights and guidance to Eaze’s leadership team. Barnes’ entrepreneurial spirit and passion for advocacy will undoubtedly help shape the future of the cannabis industry.

In addition to Barnes, Eaze has also appointed industry leaders Kristi Palmer, co-founder of Kiva Confections, and VERTOSA Chief Innovation Officer Austin Stevenson to the Momentum advisory board. This world-class team also includes other notable names such as Malaki Amen, President and CEO of California Urban Partnership, and LaWanda Knox, CEO of Make Green Go, among others.

Looking Forward

The cannabis industry is rapidly evolving, and the appointment of Barnes to Eaze’s Board of Directors is a clear indication of the industry’s progress. With Barnes and other notable figures at the helm, the future of cannabis advocacy and social impact looks brighter than ever.

As the industry continues to grow, it is essential to remember the importance of supporting equity and social impact programs that help uplift communities and provide opportunities for underrepresented entrepreneurs. With the support of individuals like Barnes, the cannabis industry can continue to make positive strides towards a brighter and more equitable future
