Reggae on the River Returns: Music, Camping, and Cannabis

Reggae enthusiasts and festival-goers, rejoice! The iconic Reggae on the River festival is making its long-awaited return this August 2-4. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the County Line Ranch in Piercy, this legendary Northern California festival promises a weekend filled with music, camping, and cannabis.

A Brief History of Reggae on the River

Founded in 1984, Reggae on the River has grown into one of the most cherished events on the global reggae scene. From its humble beginnings, this festival has maintained a strong community vibe, reflecting its roots in Humboldt County’s Mateel Community Center. Over the years, it has drawn crowds of up to 15,000 people, featuring international reggae legends like The Marley Brothers, Toots & the Maytals, Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff, Third World, and Steel Pulse.

The Return of an Icon

After a six-year hiatus, Reggae on the River is back and bigger than ever. This year’s festival, organized in conjunction with Hot Milk Entertainment, marks a significant return for the event.

Confirmed 2024 headliners include Konshens, Capleton, Anthony B, Collie Buddz, Lila Ike, Stylo G, Demarco, Skarra Mucci, and Sister Nancy, among others. Attendees can look forward to a late-night DJ dance party on the river, ensuring the music never stops.

Music, Camping, and Community

Music will flow from noon until late night across three stages, including a special stage where fans can enjoy the tunes while swimming in the Eel River. This immersive experience is what sets Reggae on the River apart, creating a unique blend of relaxation and rhythmic enjoyment.

Camping at County Line Ranch adds another layer of excitement to the festival. Attendees can camp under the stars, surrounded by nature, and the community spirit that defines this event. It’s a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with the earth and good vibes.

Cannabis Zone: A New Era

This year’s festival is notable for another reason – it’s the first Reggae on the River in the age of cannabis legalization. Humboldt County’s reputation for producing some of the finest outdoor, organic cannabis is well-known, and now attendees can experience this firsthand. The festival will feature an official “cannabis zone” powered by Humboldt’s own Cannifest, where adults can purchase and consume cannabis products directly from the Emerald Triangle’s legendary farmers.

“Humboldt County has long been known for growing the country’s best outdoor, organic cannabis while pushing back against the government’s misguided prohibition against this beneficial plant,” says Christina Augustine, Vice President of the Mateel Community Center. “This year’s Reggae on the River is the perfect opportunity for people to come and enjoy our local produce and culture while enjoying world-class music and camping out under the stars.”

Family-Friendly Fun

Despite the addition of the cannabis zone, Reggae on the River remains a fully family-friendly event. Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult, and the festival highlights local food, drinks, crafts, art, and vendors, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
