Out of New Jersey, Roll Up Life, Inc. is a CBD-delivery company. Partnering with the city of East Orange and its mayor, Ted R. Green, the company is launching a Community Expungement Program. Offered in three parts, the program promises legal and reentry resources to help adjudicate non-violent and marijuana-related convictions. All services will be one-on-one and at no cost.
Tiyahnn Bryant is the founder and CEO of Roll Up Life. He says, “We created this program to not only help residents obtain a clean record, but our overall goal is also to see that people are reentered and given opportunities for a fresh start.”
Phase One of the program connects attendees with participating law firms for info on expungement processing. Phase Two is an opportunity for individual attorney one-on-ones. In Phase Three, those whose convictions qualify will have petitions filed on their behalf. It’ll be the final step for getting charges dismissed and eventual expungement.
Among the lawyers offering free legal services in the program are Ronald P. Mondello, Esq., Michael A. Hoffman, Esq., and East Orange Corporation Counsel. Over 100 people have registered to attend the program to date.
Another benefit of the program is five scholarships ($500 per) for New Jersey Cannabis Certified will get raffled off. New Jersey Cannabis Certified is a training program targeted at the state’s cannabis industry. It’ll be an opportunity to get schooled in recreational and medical cannabis and get a foot up for job placement.
Mayor Green is a staunch proponent for expungement. He’s been doing workshops throughout his city for over 10 years spreading knowledge. He believes community outreach is the best way to create a lasting impact. His workshops and the partnership with Roll Up Life continue his determination to support anyone negatively affected by the so-called war on drugs.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to promote restorative justice, the expungement workshop has become a transformational asset to our community,” says Mayor Green. “Whether it’s applying for a loan, securing employment, or even advancing education, having your criminal record sealed expunged is vital, and I will continue to make it a top priority for my residents.”
The event jumps off Saturday, February 5th. It’ll take place at the East Orange Public Library at 21 S. Arlington Street, East Orange, from 9:30 am to 12 pm.
The Apothecarium Dispensary is sponsoring the event. That’s a New Jersey alternative treatment center with locations in Maplewood, Phillipsburg, and Lodi. Other sponsors are Miles of Green, UFCW 360, Green Thumb Industries, Valley Wellness, Valley Bank, McLaughlin and Stern, LLP, and the New Jersey Cannabis Business Association.
Roll Up Life CEO Bryant has high hopes for the initiative. He says, “I expect all of our applicants to come out of this with a chance they didn’t have walking in.”
