San Diego City Council Member Channels Inner Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre to Advocate for Cannabis Social Equity

San Diego City Council member Armand King recently brought some entertainment and excitement to the council’s meetings by channeling his inner Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre. King, who represents District 4 in San Diego, is known for his advocacy for social equity in the cannabis industry. In a meeting on October 11, 2022, titled “Cannabis Equity Assessment and Program Development” (item 331), he used his love for rap music to convey a message about the importance of cannabis social equity for the “real ones.”

King began his message by referencing Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre’s iconic album, “The Chronic,” which was released in 1992 and is considered a classic in the history of rap music.

King’s message was not only entertaining, but also informative. He emphasized the importance of social equity in the cannabis industry, which has historically been marred by racial and economic disparities. He called on his fellow council members to support policies that promote social equity, such as reducing barriers to entry for marginalized communities and providing resources and support for small businesses.

King’s message also highlighted the role of music in advocacy and activism. Rap music has a long history of addressing social and political issues, from Tupac’s “Changes” to Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright.” In channeling Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre, King demonstrated how music can be a powerful tool for conveying a message and mobilizing people.

“Life on the council can be boring at times,” King said. “But by channeling the spirit of Snoop and Dre, we can inject some energy and excitement into our work, and remind ourselves of the importance of fighting for social equity and justice.”
