The Big Game isn’t just about touchdowns, halftime shows, and overpriced commercials anymore. This year, Jeeter—the heavyweight champ of pre-rolls—is rolling out something even the non-football fans will appreciate: the Big Game Legacy Pack. And guess who’s joining the huddle? None other than NFL legends Calvin Johnson Jr. and Ricky Williams.

These aren’t your average celebrity slap-their-name-on-it collabs. We’re talking carefully crafted strains, collectible packaging, and vibes as legendary as their careers.

Meet the Legends, Light the Legacy

Let’s start with the obvious—Calvin Johnson Jr., aka Megatron, a Detroit Lions icon and Hall of Famer who now co-owns Primitiv, a cannabis brand with dispensaries in Michigan and Boston.

On the other side of the field, we’ve got Ricky Williams, the Heisman Trophy-winning running back and founder of Highsman, a cannabis lifestyle brand that’s been making waves in the industry.

These two legends aren’t just slapping their names on the box—they’ve been hands-on with Jeeter to create strains that reflect their personal journeys, both on and off the field.

What’s in the Box? (Spoiler: It’s Fire)

Launching on February 7, 2025, in dispensaries across California, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Michigan, each Big Game Legacy Pack comes with rosin-enhanced diamond pre-rolls—aka, the good stuff. And Jeeter didn’t stop there. The packaging is a collectible “locker-style” box with custom enamel pins, one for each player: Ricky’s #34 and Calvin’s #81.

Think of it as the cannabis version of sports memorabilia, but you can actually enjoy it, not just stare at it on a shelf.

Sticky Ricky: The Legend Returns

Back for its fourth year, the “Sticky Ricky” strain is a tribute to Williams’ career, combining Blue Mango and GMO Cookies into an indica blend that hits just right. It’s got that tropical mango sweetness upfront, followed by earthy funk and a spicy pine kick.

Perfect for post-game chill sessions, it delivers that full-body relaxation with a euphoric high to match. Whether your team wins or loses, Sticky Ricky has your back.

“I always get excited about this time of year, not just because it’s the Big Game, but because I know Highsman and Jeeter are dropping another locker,” says Ricky. “This year’s even more special with the game in New Orleans—I played there, so we added some unique touches.”

Bonus: Each box has a hidden nugget inside, just waiting to be discovered. A true Easter egg for the fans.

Primitiv Megachron: Megatron’s Cannabis Alter Ego

Calvin Johnson’s exclusive strain, “Primitiv Megachron,” is an indica powerhouse blending Northern Lights with Blueberry. It’s all about bold berry flavors with earthy undertones, delivering deep body relaxation that melts away stress and tension.

“Teaming up with Jeeter for the Big Game has been a blast,” says Calvin. “This isn’t just about celebrating football—it’s about wellness. Cannabis has played a big role in my life, and I’m excited to share this with fans.”

Basically, if Sticky Ricky is for kicking back, Primitiv Megachron is for complete mind-and-body tranquility. Think of it as the final whistle after a long day.

Catch the Legends In Person

Want to get your locker signed by the legends themselves? Here’s your chance:

Ricky Williams In-Store Signing

When: Thursday, Feb 6 | 4:20 PM – 5:30 PM

We’re talking custom letterman jackets, sweat sets, jerseys, and more. Ricky’s line pops with black, gold, purple, and green, nodding to his New Orleans Saints days. Calvin’s line? A crisp combo of Detroit Lions blue and white, with his iconic #81 front and center.

Jeeter’s no stranger to the apparel game, either. They’ve linked with NBA legend Dwyane Wade, created university-inspired capsules, and even dropped a women’s line with model Cindy Prado. So yeah, they know how to design for the culture.

Final Whistle

Jeeter isn’t just riding the Big Game wave—they’re creating a whole experience. Between the fire strains, collectible lockers, meet-and-greet events, and exclusive apparel, the Big Game Legacy Pack is more than just a cannabis drop. It’s a celebration of culture, sports, and cannabis.

Whether you’re a die-hard football fan, a cannabis connoisseur, or just someone who appreciates dope collaborations, this one’s for you.

Last night, the Last Prisoner Project (LPP) celebrated its five-year anniversary in spectacular fashion at their inaugural Journey to Justice Gala, bringing together influential leaders, advocates, and gamechangers from across the cannabis industry to support criminal justice reform. Held at Sony Hall in New York City, the gala was a night of inspiration, commemoration, and reflection on the progress made in freeing those unjustly imprisoned for cannabis-related offenses.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – SEPTEMBER 24: Umi NiiLampti, Keith Shocklee, Mutulu “M-1” Olugbala, Arielle Palitz and guests attends Last Prisoner Project’s Inaugural Journey To Justice Gala at Sony Hall on September 24, 2024 in New York City.
A Celebration of Impact

The evening was filled with meaningful moments, starting with a cocktail hour featuring music by Chris Johnson’s String Quartet. Guests also participated in several hands-on activities, including writing letters to incarcerated cannabis prisoners and signing petitions urging President Biden and state governors to grant cannabis clemency.

The program kicked off with remarks from Stephanie Shepard, LPP’s Director of Advocacy, who shared her personal journey of being convicted for cannabis in New York. “It’s full circle to be here today, supported by those who once fought for my freedom,” she expressed passionately, setting the tone for the night.

A Legacy of Legal Support

Sarah Gersten, Executive Director and Co-Founding Member of Last Prisoner Project, took the stage to introduce Goodwin, a multinational law firm, and key partner in LPP’s Cannabis Justice Initiative (CJI). This pro bono initiative has provided legal representation to over 300 incarcerated individuals, reducing sentences by more than 100 years. One of those beneficiaries, Andy Cox, moved the audience with his story of release after serving a life sentence for cannabis. “Without LPP, I’d still be in that prison cell,” Cox shared, highlighting the life-changing impact of the organization.

Honoring the Heroes

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – SEPTEMBER 24: Michael Thompson and Calvin Johnson attend Last Prisoner Project’s Inaugural Journey To Justice Gala at Sony Hall on September 24, 2024 in New York City.
The night continued with powerful tributes to those whose lives have been transformed by LPP’s efforts. NFL Hall of Famer Calvin “Megatron” Johnson introduced Michael Thompson, a Michigander who spent over two decades behind bars for a nonviolent cannabis offense. Thompson, granted clemency in 2021 with LPP’s support, emphasized the importance of caring for those still incarcerated.

JoJo Simmons, son of Rev Run from Run DMC, also took the stage to honor Richeda Sinclair for her tireless work advocating for the release of her father, Ricardo Ashmeade, who is currently serving a mandatory 22-year sentence for cannabis. As the face of LPP’s Pen to Right History campaign, Richeda continues to push for cannabis clemency, hoping her father will be freed in time for her law school graduation next year.
The Last Prisoner Project’s Journey to Justice Gala was a powerful reminder of the strength in unity, the importance of justice, and the collective responsibility to fight for freedom.

In recent years, marijuana has gained acceptance as an alternative treatment for physical and mental ailments. The National Football League (NFL), however, has had a rocky relationship with the drug. In this article, we will explore the NFL’s drug policy and its stance on marijuana.

NFL Drug Policy

Under the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), NFL players no longer get tested for THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) in April and August. This means that players can now consume cannabis during the off-season without fear of punishment.

Historically, the NFL has been harsh on cannabis use among its players. Those who tested positive for the drug faced suspensions, sackings, and even lifetime bans. Teams suffered too; for instance, Pittsburgh Steeler wide receiver Martavis Bryant missed the entire 2016 season due to cannabis use.

Under the previous CBA, all players got tested at least once during the off-season. Ten players got additional random drug tests during the regular season.

The new CBA still entails testing during April and August, but not for THC. Additionally, cannabis and performance-enhancing drugs are treated differently during random tests. Players who consume weed can enter a treatment program and avoid suspension.

Consumption Consequences

While players can now consume cannabis as much as they want during the off-season, they must practice moderation during the game season. The NFL tests for weed during the season, but the restrictions have loosened.

Previously, players could not exceed 35 nanograms of THC in their system during the season. However, under the new policy, players can have up to 150 nanograms of THC (which suggests getting high in the previous week) and still pass the test year-round.

If there’s proof of chronic use, the League now emphasizes treatment rather than punishment. Players who fail the test enter Stage One of the Intervention Program, where a professional evaluates whether they’re abusing weed and suggests appropriate care. Players only get fined and moved to Stage Two if they don’t follow the proposed medical treatment. If they fail to comply again, they face suspension.

Do NFL Players Smoke Weed?

Despite the restrictions, many NFL players consume cannabis. The plant offers an effective way to relieve physical and mental strain, reduce pain and inflammation, and stay in top form. Since no proof cannabis might enhance performance exists, why should they skip it?

This argument becomes even more persuasive when we consider the alternative: opioids. Opioid use is out of control in the NFL, and many players have suffered from addiction. Marijuana is one of the least harmful available alternatives.

Superstar Calvin Johnson said he smoked it after every game to avoid deadly drugs, and he’s not alone. Former Dolphins running back Ricky Williams (now a pot-friendly entrepreneur) is another notable advocate for marijuana use. Wide receiver Josh Gordon has spent most of his career suspended for consumption. David Irving quit instead of accepting a ban, and Eben Britton admitted he toked before playing.

For this reason, players’ access to medical marijuana has a spot in online discourse. We’re yet to see whether the League will allow CBD during the season, but a push exists.

NFL & Other Substances

The NFL bars a long list of substances, including steroids, hormones, masking agents, cocaine, MDMA, PCP, synthetic cannabinoids, and stimulants. Abuse of alcohol, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter meds is also prohibited.

The banned substance index has two categories. The first covers performance enhancers, and the second recreational drugs. If a player gets caught with something from the latter in their system, they don’t face an immediate suspension. Also, if they have a diagnosis treated with a prohibited drug, they may get a therapeutic use exception.

NFL: A Shifting Landscape

The NFL’s stance on marijuana has evolved over the years as public opinion and scientific research have shed light on its benefits. The League depends on its fans, so it makes sense that they are shifting gears.

Marijuana may be effective for pain relief, anxiety, stress, and inflammation, all of which are common among professional athletes. It is a natural alternative to synthetic drugs and can help players recover from pushing past their limits for the sport. There is no reason to say no to tracked and responsible use.

While football players are still restricted, fans can take full advantage of cannabis. Those who support the pros’ right to consume marijuana can show their support on social media. They can also buy seeds to grow weed and use their law-given freedom.

In conclusion, the NFL’s drug policy has evolved to become more lenient towards cannabis use. While players can consume marijuana during the off-season, they must practice moderation during the game season. Despite the restrictions, many players continue to advocate for the drug, citing its health benefits and as a safer alternative to opioids. As the public’s perception of marijuana changes, it is possible that the NFL’s stance on the drug will change as well.

The Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference, a top event for the cannabis industry, has recently announced a star-studded lineup of athletes and musicians for its upcoming conference. Headlining the event will be football legends Calvin Johnson, Rob Sims and Ricky Williams who will be talking about the role of cannabis in promoting health and wellness. They will lead a session on how a passion for relief has driven these athletes to build consumer loyalty.

Chicago rapper and singer Vic Mensa will also make an appearance in a session titled Cannabis, Music, and the Next Generation. Mensa is the owner of the 93 Boyz line of cannabis products, which is the first black-owned brand to hit the shelves in Chicago. Additionally, the conference will feature a keynote discussion by champion fighters Mike Tyson and Ric Flair about their Tyson 2.0 partnership.

The conference will also celebrate diversity and showcase the achievements of the most innovative companies in the cannabis industry. Benzinga has partnered with Women Grow, an organization that connects, educates, inspires, and empowers women in the cannabis industry. In support of this partnership, eight women-owned cannabis businesses will have their sponsorship fees waived, and several more women-owned brands will be showcased in the exhibit hall at no cost. These companies include House of Saka, 40Tons, Black Buddha, Ciencia Labs, Garden Society, MAKR House and House of Puff.

The conference will also feature the inaugural Benzinga Cannabis Awards Ceremony, where the winners in 32 categories will be revealed. A list of finalists was recently released and the awards ceremony will be held on Monday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m.

“This is a project of passion that we have been cultivating for the past several years and we couldn’t be more excited to see it become a reality,” said Primitiv co-founder, Rob Sims. “We’ve made Michigan our home and have been blessed by the support we have received from our community and feel this is a great way to further plant roots and give back to the communities that have embraced us.”

For Johnson and Sims, opening Primitiv is about more than just a retail opportunity, as the two have been advocating the elevated wellness properties of cannabis for years. In a physically demanding sport like professional football, athletes learn to deal with the pain in order to keep playing and extend careers as long as possible. Often, they are prescribed opioid painkillers for treatment, which can lead to dependency and addiction. Johnson and Sims felt the need for a more holistic approach to their pain management, and Primitiv was born out of that belief.

“We’ve seen so many of our brothers from around the league turn to other forms of pain relief just to get through the game, day or season,” Johnson added. “We believe in the holistic properties of cannabis as an all-natural, plant-based option not just for athletes but for anyone looking for physical or mental relief. We’ve just scratched the surface in our innovation process and are looking forward to more news to share later this year.”

Expect a series of announcements from Primitiv this year to include a collection of interactive roundtable discussions, the introduction of new product lines, a loyalty club, special events, on-premise signings with celebrities in the cannabis community, elevated dinners, and the launch of a brand ambassador program. Stay current and join the conversation on Instagram and Facebook by searching @primitiv_group, or by opting in to Primitiv’s insider e-mail program, News & Nuggs.
