This unique collaboration celebrates Haslem’s storied career and deep Florida roots, offering a product infused with quality, tradition, and a robust ‘offensive’ flavor profile designed to match the intensity of the basketball powerhouse himself.

The Collaboration

Affectionately known as UD, Mr. 305, and the steadfast captain of the Miami Heat, Udonis Haslem has turned his championship spirit from the hardwood to the cultivation rooms of The Flowery. The collaboration, perfectly timed with the cannabis community’s high holiday, 4/20, marks the launch of not just the FORTY OG strain but an exclusive line of basketball-themed merchandise crafted by local artists.

The Inspiration Behind FORTY OG

Developed over 14 months, FORTY OG is more than a cannabis strain; it’s a tribute to Haslem’s legacy both on the court and within his community. Characterized by its ‘gassy’ aroma and potent effects, the strain aims to deliver a high that’s as impactful as UD’s performance under the hoops. It’s a product meant to resonate with enthusiasts and novices alike, promising an experience that’s both grounding and exhilarating.

Udonis Haslem’s Role

Haslem’s involvement with The Flowery goes beyond typical celebrity endorsements. As an intrinsic part of the team, he frequently visits the cultivation sites, engages with staff, and provides input on grow operations. His mantra, “Keep Applying Pressure,” mirrors his on-court philosophy and underscores his approach to cannabis cultivation—relentless, passionate, and always striving for excellence.

The Product Line

Alongside the FORTY OG strain, The Flowery is set to release a limited edition series of apparel, including jerseys, t-shirts, and hats, all designed by the celebrated street artist, Disem. Reflecting the spirit of Miami and Haslem’s personal style, the merchandise offers fans a wearable piece of this unique collaboration.

Celebration and Availability

The launch of FORTY OG will be commemorated with a VIP party in Wynwood, embracing the vibrant local culture and Haslem’s contributions to the city. The strain and the accompanying merchandise will be available online at The Flowery’s website and at select dispensaries across Florida, making it accessible to a wide audience eager to experience the quality and creativity of this partnership.

Conclusion

The introduction of the FORTY OG strain by Udonis Haslem and The Flowery is a landmark moment for the cannabis industry in Florida. It celebrates local excellence, a commitment to quality, and the enduring legacy of a basketball legend. As The Flowery continues to push the boundaries of innovation, they invite cannabis enthusiasts and Heat fans alike to partake in this unique, high-quality experience.

The post NBA Legend Udonis Haslem Unveils FORTY OG Cannabis Strain appeared first on Black Cannabis Magazine.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">199096</post-id>

Megan Blackwell: The Healer Behind Beso Wellness

Hazey Taughtme

Women

Anti-Inflammatory

athletes

Beso Industries

Cannabis

dispensaries

equity

featured

Megan Blackwell

NBA

Social Issues

Spa

Spirituality

topicals

Wellness

In a search for Megan Blackwell, you’ll discover her multifaceted identity: an international runway and print model, a dynamic minister, and a CBD massage therapist whose clientele includes Hollywood elites and actual royalty. However, the breadth of her roles barely encompasses the core of her identity—a visionary healer taking the cannabis wellness industry by storm with her Beso Wellness line.

A Cannabis-infused Journey

Each Beso Wellness product is a medley of cannabis and other natural elements like oils and butters, designed specifically for massage therapy and skin health. “Every ingredient in my products mirrors the tapestry of my life experiences,” Megan reveals. Inspired by her Irish grandmother’s culinary teachings, she’s innovating within the cannabis space by crafting blends that go beyond the mainstream, targeting well-being on a holistic level.

The Roots of a Healer

Megan has always had a knack for connection and creativity. Raised in an artistic family—her father a Native American professional conga player, and her mother a French Canadian visual artist—her capacity for empathy was honed during a mission trip to an overcrowded orphanage in China. That transformative experience brought her face to face with the primal power of human touch.

A Life Less Ordinary

Megan is an embodiment of continual reinvention. From excelling in academics and sports to an early career in international modeling, her worldly experiences have always expanded her horizons. It was during these travels that her foray into the realm of massage therapy began, particularly as she worked to alleviate her husband Cory’s physical stresses as a basketball player.

Faith, Leadership, and Transformation

A pivotal moment at a church service led Megan down the path of Christian ministry. In this role, she managed to grow her congregation exponentially and lead impactful social initiatives. Yet, as she gained deeper insights into the organizational aspects, she opted to step away, recognizing the institution’s misalignment with her own core beliefs.

Rise, Fall, and Resurgence

After a public and painful exit from the church, Megan relocated to Georgia and channeled her skills into education. “The trials I endured were the crucible that formed the healer I am today,” she states emphatically. But life had another twist in store. With her son’s basketball talent garnering attention, the family moved back to LA, and Megan enrolled in a Kinesiology program. This pivot signaled a change from oratory healing to the tactile, facilitated by her discovery of cannabis-infused wellness.

Beso Wellness: A Cannabis Wellness Vanguard

It wasn’t long before Megan realized that mainstream cannabis-infused products were falling short. Driven by her lifelong belief in aromatherapy, crystals, and essential oils, she took matters into her own hands. Beso Wellness was born out of rigorous testing and refinement, and its efficacy is noteworthy. Her cannabis-infused products have succeeded in liberating five of her clients from their dependency on opiates.

Today, Megan stands at the forefront of the cannabis wellness industry, wielding her ‘big spoon’ not just as a mixing tool but as an instrument for change. She’s confident that Beso Wellness represents a future where cannabis-centric, topical treatments are not just a luxury but an accessible norm.

With Beso Wellness, Megan Blackwell isn’t just offering products; she’s sharing a piece of her soul, a narrative of resilience, and a new frontier in cannabis-based holistic healing.

The post Megan Blackwell: The Healer Behind Beso Wellness appeared first on Black Cannabis Magazine.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">198502</post-id>

Antonio Harvey Champions Cannabis Equity with Harmony Roots

Hazey Taughtme

Equity

Sports

Antonio Harvey

Cannabis

Craft Cannabis

equity

featured

Flavonoids

Harmony Roots

Jennifer Speer-Harvey

NBA

Oregon

Portland Trail Blazers

Social justice

Terpenes

Woman owned

From Court to Cannabis: Antonio Harvey and Harmony Roots Advocate for Equity Introduction Former Portland Trail Blazer Antonio Harvey has transitioned from scoring points on the court to making a societal impact through cannabis. Along with his wife, head grower Jennifer Speer-Harvey, the couple is committed to creating a more equitable cannabis landscape.

Antonio Harvey: A Trailblazer in More Ways Than One

Best known for his time as a Portland Trail Blazer, Harvey’s influence has moved beyond basketball. He’s leveraging his platform to bring attention to equity issues within the cannabis industry, issues he deeply understands.

The Hurdles of LUCS

Navigating through the exhaustive Land Use Compatibility Survey (LUCS) is a common obstacle for aspiring cannabis entrepreneurs. This becomes even more burdensome for those without the resources to employ expert guidance.

Booming Sales, Limited Access

Cannabis is big business in Oregon, pulling in $80 million in a single month. However, the Cannabis Policy Oversight Team (CPOT) stresses that policies must prioritize social equity to rectify historical imbalances.

Harmony Roots: A Benchmark for Cannabis Equity

Harmony Roots stands out as a vanguard for industry equity and quality. The brand’s unique selling point is its meticulous blend of terpenes and flavonoids, crafted under the expert eye of head grower, Jennifer Speer-Harvey.

Jennifer Speer-Harvey: A Legacy of Farming and a Future in Cannabis

Jennifer Speer-Harvey

Growing up in an agricultural family, Jennifer Speer-Harvey had a clear vision for her future. Not content to be relegated to the office, she seized the opportunity to become a head grower, earning Harmony Roots a place among Oregon’s ‘Elite Eight.’

The Female Factor in Cannabis

Jennifer Speer-Harvey faced gender-based roadblocks in a male-dominated industry but found an eager market among women. Her journey has empowered her to produce cannabis products that resonate with women across various roles in life.

The Move from “Poison to Plant”

As Antonio Harvey puts it, “Our big thing is getting people off of poison and onto a plant.” He calls for equitable access to the cannabis industry, emphasizing that opportunities should be open for all, not just a privileged few.

Conclusion

Through Harmony Roots, Antonio and Jennifer Speer-Harvey are setting new standards for quality and equity in the cannabis sector. They combine their unique strengths—his influence as a former Trail Blazer and her expertise as a head grower—to push the industry towards a more equitable future.

The post Antonio Harvey Champions Cannabis Equity with Harmony Roots appeared first on Black Cannabis Magazine.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">198426</post-id>

Kevin Durant’s Cannabis Advocacy Reshapes NBA Policies

Hazey Taughtme

Sports

Adam Silver

Athletes and Marijuana

Cannabis Advocacy

Cannabis Companies

Cannabis Investment

Cannabis Policies

collective bargaining agreement

Kevin Durant

Marijuana Ban

NBA

NBA Commissioner

Phoenix Suns

Sports Marijuana Policy

NBA champion Kevin Durant’s cannabis advocacy has catalyzed a significant policy change. The NBA, under Durant’s influence, has decided to lift its historic marijuana ban.

A Game-Changer On and Off the Court

Durant’s on-court prowess has won him acclaim and trophies. However, his influence extends far beyond the basketball court. His crucial role in advocating for cannabis reform within the NBA is creating waves in the sports world.

Durant’s Advocacy for Cannabis Use: A Game Changer

Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns star, revealed during a recent sports business summit that he personally lobbied NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for cannabis reform. Durant emphasized the shifting societal perspectives and the reduced stigma around cannabis use.

A Landmark Agreement Following Advocacy

Durant’s cannabis advocacy led to a groundbreaking collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the players’ union. This pact discontinues marijuana screenings for players and greenlights their investment in cannabis companies. Durant and his associates are early adopters of this new avenue.

Durant’s Passion for Cannabis Reform

During his meeting with Commissioner Silver, Durant’s passion for cannabis advocacy was palpable. His humorously recounted encounter underscored his commitment to the cause. To Durant, cannabis use among players is as common as enjoying a glass of wine.

Durant’s Personal Cannabis Use

Durant openly discusses his personal use of marijuana. He shared in a recent Netflix interview with David Letterman, “To me, it clears the distractions out of your brain… It’s like having a glass of wine.” Durant’s goal is to transform societal narratives surrounding athletes and marijuana.

Ripple Effect of Changing Policies

The NBA’s cannabis policy reform, in line with Durant’s advocacy, aligns with similar changes across various sporting leagues. In 2019, Major League Baseball (MLB) removed cannabis from its list of banned substances. The new CBA now lifts the ban on cannabis, enabling players to use the substance for medical and personal use. This momentous decision not only acknowledges the shifting public perception of cannabis but also opens the door for player investments in the booming cannabis industry.

Navigating the New Landscape: NBA’s Revised Cannabis Policy

The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) have joined forces, endorsing a progressive seven-year contract that revolutionizes the NBA Cannabis Policy. In this new regime, marijuana is no longer a prohibited substance. Moreover, it opens up opportunities for players to invest in cannabis companies under certain terms and conditions.

Player Investments and Endorsements in the Cannabis Industry

Under this evolved Collective Bargaining Agreement, players can engage in passive investments in cannabis companies, provided their share doesn’t exceed 50% of the business. There’s also room for players to own stakes, direct or indirect, in companies that produce or sell CBD products.

The changes also spill over into endorsement deals. While players can endorse or promote CBD products, written approval is necessary from both the NBA and the Players Association.

Balancing Freedom and Accountability: The Continued Regulations

Despite the revolutionary changes, the NBA continues to uphold certain regulations in relation to substance use. The agreement details the repercussions for players who do not adhere to prescribed alcohol or marijuana treatment programs. If players show disregard for their responsibilities or test positive for marijuana and/or alcohol, they might face disciplinary action.

Implications of the Policy Change: The Broader Sports Landscape

The amendment to the CBA marks a significant shift in professional sports’ attitude towards cannabis. This change is already reflected in the actions of players like NBA superstar Kevin Durant, who partnered with Weedmaps, an online marijuana marketplace, to help destigmatize cannabis use.

However, there are still challenges. Players interested in investing in the cannabis industry must be cautious. The NBA Cannabis Policy might have changed, but the federal prohibition and varying state-level legislations mean legal, regulatory, and reputational risks persist.

In conclusion, this modification to the CBA is a crucial step forward in redefining the relationship between professional sports and cannabis. As the legalization tide turns and societal attitudes continue to shift, the NBA’s stance has the potential to significantly influence not only the league and its players but also the entire sports world.

The post NBA Lifts Ban on Cannabis and Allows Players to Invest appeared first on Black Cannabis Magazine.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">197910</post-id>

NBA Embraces Cannabis: New CBA Removes Marijuana from Drug Testing System

Hazey Taughtme

NEWS

Sports

cannabis policy

collective bargaining agreement

drug testing

featured

Kevin Durant

marijuana

NBA

progressive stance

NBA Players Score Big with Cannabis Investment and Policy Changes In a historic collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and its players association, players are set to benefit from two groundbreaking changes related to cannabis. Firstly, the deal allows players to invest in and promote cannabis companies. Secondly, marijuana will be removed from the league’s drug testing program. These changes, pending ratification by the union and team governors, mark a significant shift in the NBA’s approach to cannabis.

Cannabis Off the Drug Testing Program

The tentative agreement would remove marijuana from the league’s drug testing program, as reported by The Athletic sports media site. This move follows a growing trend of acceptance and legalization of marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes across the United States. NBA stars, like Kevin Durant, have been outspoken advocates for cannabis use, aiming to change the narrative around marijuana.

A Win for the Cannabis Industry

This tentative agreement provides a significant endorsement for the cannabis industry and opens up a new source of funding for marijuana companies, which have faced challenges in a tight funding market. The seven-year agreement would mark a turning point for the NBA, which has previously penalized players for marijuana consumption and barred them from participating in cannabis sponsorships or business ventures.

Investing in NBA and WNBA Teams

In addition to the new cannabis policy, the proposed labor agreement would permit players to invest in NBA and WNBA teams. This move would further solidify the relationship between players and the league, allowing them to benefit from their association with professional basketball.

Previous Stance on Cannabis

Historically, the NBA has maintained a strict stance on marijuana use. Players faced testing, fines, and suspensions if found to have used the substance. However, as more states have legalized cannabis and attitudes have evolved, the league’s policy had become increasingly outdated.

Kevin Durant: Changing the Narrative

Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant has been an outspoken advocate for cannabis use. In a David Letterman interview last year, he revealed that he started using marijuana at 22. Durant compared its effects to having a glass of wine, as it clears distractions from the brain. He also expressed his desire to “change the narrative” surrounding marijuana, citing the injustice of people serving lengthy jail sentences for selling the substance.

Other Changes in the CBA

The collective bargaining agreement also includes other significant changes, such as an in-season tournament, long desired by Commissioner Adam Silver, and a requirement for players to appear in at least 65 games to be eligible for top individual awards, such as Most Valuable Player. A second luxury tax level has been introduced, affecting the way teams can use their midlevel exception to sign players.

Looking Ahead

The NBA’s progressive step in removing marijuana from its drug testing system is a welcome change that reflects the evolving attitudes towards cannabis in society. As the league continues to adapt and grow, it will be interesting to see if other professional sports organizations follow suit.

How do you think the new cannabis policy will impact players and the NBA as a whole? The NBA champion, entrepreneur, and podcast host opened up about his life on and off the court, offering valuable insights and lessons that resonated with viewers.

Cannabis as a Lifestyle

One of the standout topics discussed during the interview was Matt Barnes’ openness about his cannabis use. Barnes mentioned that he’s able to consume cannabis while taping his show for Showtime. He only smokes with retired athletes. He went on to talk about his daily routine, explaining when he chooses to smoke and the benefits he experiences from cannabis use. Additionally, Barnes and Bellamy shared a light-hearted moment discussing high THC levels in some strains of cannabis, jokingly referring to those who smoke them as “zombies.” This candid conversation about cannabis helps to destigmatize its use and showcase how it plays a role in Barnes’ life both professionally and personally.

Navigating the NBA

Matt Barnes shared his experiences navigating the world of professional basketball, discussing the highs and lows he experienced throughout his career. Du, who started as a budtender, has worked his way up the ranks to become Kemp’s business partner and general manager. With Kemp now one of the few Black owners in the state of Washington, the new dispensary aims to be a boost for the reputation of the business and for people of color fighting for representation in the industry.

A Showcase of Seattle Culture

The former bank building, now home to Shawn Kemp’s dispensary, features a massive mural of Kemp, former Sonic teammate Gary Payton, Bruce Lee, and Jimi Hendrix, showcasing Seattle’s rich cultural history. The dispensary will offer over 3,000 unique products, making it the best selection in the city.

Celebrating the Grand Opening

Shawn Kemp and friends will host a ribbon cutting event on Saturday, Feb. 11 at noon, celebrating the grand opening of the new dispensary. With special 50% off sales and the possibility of celebrity appearances, the event promises to be a celebration for fans and customers alike. The dispensary is located at 2764 First Avenue South, near Starbucks Center.

Past Missteps Highlight Lack of Diversity

The opening of Shawn Kemp’s first cannabis store in Seattle on Oct. 30, 2020, drew attention to the lack of diversity in the city’s cannabis market. A mistaken news release promoting the store as Seattle’s first Black-owned marijuana retailer led to conflicting news reports and complaints from industry officials. Despite the confusion, Kemp’s name has since been added to the license, making him one of the first people in Seattle to identify as Black or African-American among retail store owners.

Committed to Social Equity

Paula Sardinas, a lobbyist for Washington state’s Commission on African American Affairs, pointed out that the attention received by Shawn Kemp’s cannabis store is further proof that more efforts are needed to achieve social equity in the state’s cannabis industry. The company is committed to lowering barriers to access and promoting diversity in the industry.

The post Shawn Kemp Expands Cannabis Ventures with New Dispensary in Seattle appeared first on Black Cannabis Magazine.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">187547</post-id>

NBA Hall of Famer Ben Wallace & Michigan-Based Rair Launch Undrafted®, An Exclusive Cannabis Product Line

Press Releases

Press Releases

Ben Wallace

NBA

Rair

Undrafted

(DETROIT – March 22, 2022)—Ben Wallace, NBA Hall of Fame player and Detroit Pistons’ legend, officially unveiled Undrafted®—a new brand of cannabis products, strain and merchandise with Jackson-based Rair. Through an exclusive licensing agreement with the company, Wallace will develop his own line of cannabis products, including cannabis flower, pre-rolls and vape cartridges–with many other future products to be announced.

Undrafted® is a nod to Wallace’s unique distinction as the first undrafted NBA player inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

“Our partnership with Rair formed so organically,” said Wallace. “I believe the marriage between our two brands automatically sets us apart from any other cannabis line out there. Rair products are of the highest quality, and I’m excited to partner with them on Undrafted, as I’m confident the brand will be nothing short of exceptional.”

Rair has four dispensary locations around the state—with a fifth location opening in Kalamazoo on 4/20—and is the only Michigan cannabis company to grow aeroponically, which is a method of growing plants in an air or mist environment as opposed to in soil or an aggregate medium. Aeroponic farming uses fewer resources, but yields faster growth, healthier plants and bigger harvests. It also drastically reduces the chance of contamination while allowing for real-time grow recipe adjustments.

“Our partnership with Ben so far has been truly incredible,” said Kevin McFadden, CEO of Rair. “It is Rair’s first time collaborating with an external vendor, and we could not have asked for a more dedicated partner to align with on our first go around. Ben’s work ethic and commitment to excellence aligns with our promise to deliver the best cannabis products and experience possible to the patients and recreational customers in Michigan.”

Wallace continued, “Cannabis has helped me safely relieve the aches and pains and different stressors that have built up from the many years as an athlete. There’s no denying that marijuana has a healing upside for athletes or anyone struggling with pain—so alongside launching the Undrafted brand, the Rair team and I will continue to push to end this stigma associated with cannabis use.”

The post NBA Hall of Famer Ben Wallace & Michigan-Based Rair Launch Undrafted®, An Exclusive Cannabis Product Line appeared first on Black Cannabis Magazine.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">143222</post-id>

<!-- Performance optimized by W3 Total Cache.
