Wanda James: Trailblazing Veteran and Cannabis Entrepreneur

Wanda James is a trailblazer in the cannabis industry, breaking barriers and advocating for social justice and equity. As a former naval officer and military veteran, James brings a unique perspective to the industry. Together with her husband, Scott Durrah, James owns Simply Pure, the first licensed dispensary in the US owned by African Americans.

Breaking Barriers and Advocating for Change

James is a CU Boulder graduate and the first African American woman commissioned through the school’s Naval ROTC unit. She has a long history of breaking barriers, and her brother, Rick, also works at Simply Pure. Rick spent four years of a 10-year sentence in prison for possessing just four ounces of marijuana, which highlights the systemic racism and injustices prevalent in the criminal justice system.

Speaking Out Against Discrimination and Seeking Social Justice

In a recent interview with FOX31, James spoke out against the government’s classification of marijuana as a Schedule I drug. The classification restricts industry growth and forces businesses to operate in cash. James remains dedicated to building a socially responsible and sustainable business that protects its customers, while advocating for legal and societal change.

Advocating for Diversity and Inclusion

James is also an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the cannabis industry. She promotes social justice and equity through her work, which is essential for building a fair and sustainable industry.

New Edible Line to Promote Social Justice

James plans to launch a new edible line called BCause later in 2023. The line will likely make waves in the industry and further promote social justice and equity. By building a socially responsible and sustainable business, James inspires others to advocate for change.

Conclusion

Wanda James is a shining example of an entrepreneur who is breaking barriers and paving the way for social change in the cannabis industry. Her work highlights the importance of diversity and inclusion in the industry, and she continues to inspire others to advocate for change. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, James’ work will remain an important example of how to create a fair and sustainable cannabis industry.
